Opening Concert of the Inaugural ISHQ Festival

Friday, October 3, 2025, 8:00 PM
(Doors open at 7pm)

Thirteen years after their unforgettable Toronto performance of Sama-e Rast (2012),

Alim Qasimov and Sashar Zarif reunite for Mahabbat
—a luminous meeting of voice and movement. With Qasimov’s Mugham Ensemble, they weave centuries-old tradition and embodied storytelling into a night that opens ISHQ Festival with beauty, memory, and devotion.

We are delighted to begin the festival with this long-awaited homecoming of artistry and spirit.

These weekly workshops will offer various ways of employing and engaging the spiritual, ritualistic and meditative aspects of movement.

The workshops are open to individuals with any physical background (all forms of dance, physical theatre, martial arts, yoga, etc.) who are interested in experiencing the sacredness of the body through movement phrases, chants and exercises that foster awareness and presence.

Facilitated by Sashar Zarif, these workshops are inspired by Sufi and Shamanic Dance and Music rituals of Central and Western Asia, Middle East and North Africa.
